Would your church small group or community group (consisting of 5-7 people) like to partner with us in welcoming an individual or family to America? Asha's Refuge collaborates with agencies and volunteers to connect newly arriving families, or those that require extended services, with groups willing to undergo a "co-sponsorship" training process and commit to a 180-day partnership. We hope that each newcomer feels accepted and welcomed. Your best friend may be waiting for you!

Transportation serves as a vital gateway for building meaningful client relationships. Our car rides create a unique environment for connection and communication, allowing us to share personal stories, educate newcomers about local resources, and practice English in a practical setting. 

The car becomes a safe space where we can help individuals reclaim their sense of hope and self-confidence. For many newcomers, ridesharing is essential for reaching workplaces, medical appointments, and grocery stores, reflecting their financial constraints as they save to purchase their vehicles. Through these interactions, we support them in overcoming immediate challenges and lay the groundwork for their future success and community integration.

Refugees and immigrants who are working to integrate into a new community and culture, often face numerous challenges, especially when navigating a new language. Advocacy and access to support services are essential to helping these newcomers succeed. Asha's Refuge collaborates with volunteer groups and agencies to assist individuals in understanding and adapting to everyday American life, including financial literacy, computer skills, job readiness, language acquisition, and cultural awareness. We believe that everyone has the right to acquire basic skills necessary for living an independent and productive life with dignity and respect.

Engaging our diverse community and fostering meaningful discussions are vital steps in raising awareness about the unique needs of immigrants. We actively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including our clients, local agencies, churches, schools, businesses, and passionate individuals, to deliver comprehensive trauma-informed cultural training. This training not only builds a foundation of trust but also unlocks collaborative problem-solving opportunities. By working together, we strive to develop effective, tailored solutions within a supportive network dedicated to assisting newcomers in their journey. Furthermore, we proudly partner with Memphis Resilience to advocate for and promote positive mental health practices, ensuring that all members of our community feel valued and supported.

Asha's Refuge collaborates with dedicated civil surgeons and legal agencies to assist newcomers in understanding their rights and navigating the various steps toward obtaining U.S. Permanent Residency and, ultimately, U.S. Naturalization. The attorneys we partner with are culturally sensitive and offer reasonable fees along with affordable payment plans. Our clients are lawfully present, eager to work, and excited about their journey toward U.S. Citizenship.
